Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez, a Mexican-American actor and singer is extremely well-known. Sara Ramirez was raised by her American mother and was subjected to a variety of racist taunts that led her to feel unwelcome. As she entered the 9th grade she felt more comfortable after she was praised by her teachers when she sang at the school's audition. The experience not only helped her gain confidence but changed her outlook on life. She graduated from the New York's Julliard School at the age of 22. In 1993 she made her Broadway debut with Paul Simon's The Capeman. Her first film was titled You've got Mail. Her greatest break came in her role as The Lady of The Lake, in the original Broadway version of Spamalot. The show won her the Tony Award and received great reviews for her performance. Later in the same year she appeared on the ABC show Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres and gained wider acceptance for the role. A singer by profession and producer, she's produced songs as well as an extended work. She also works as a LGBT activist.
